Altvater: Toledo Golf Show set to open Feb. 21Written by Fred Altvater | | BackNine@toledofreepress.com
The sixth annual Toledo Golf Show is set to open to area golf enthusiasts on Feb. 21.
Organizers are trying something new for the show this year by holding a Wine Tasting and Monster Energy party on Friday evening.
The doors will open at 5 p.m. for the first-ever Friday night event. Guys, tell your wife you are taking her to a romantic wine tasting, while you browse all the must-have new golf equipment that will shave strokes off your golf score in 2014.
Wives can do something nice for their golf-crazy significant other by bringing him to the golf show. While hubby checks out the cornucopia of golf treasures, they can relax and sample the variety of quality wines available for tasting.
It’s a win-win.
The show has grown by quantum leaps since its inception in 2009. Toledo area golf shops as well as more than 35 golf courses from around the Midwest will be in attendance offering discounts on equipment and destination golf travel.
It is the perfect place to confirm the best location and deal for your next buddies’ golf trip.
Psst guys, you might even be able to find a golf destination with a spa and shopping available to keep the better half satisfied.
Carling Nolan will be on hand again this year. The former cast member for Golf Channel’s “Big Break” will be on stage giving golf tips and telling stories. She will be co-hosting the new series, “Golf America,” with Jimmy Hanlin on Fox this year.
In addition, there will be a “closest to the pin” contest all weekend, a glass-breaking competition and free subscriptions to all attendees for Golf Digest and Golf World.
There will even be a 19th hole offering some liquid “swing oil” to whet your whistle while you stroll the isles filled with the latest technology and golf innovations.
The Toledo Golf Show will be held again this year at the Sports & Exhibition Center in the Tam-O-Shanter complex in Sylvania.
Indoor hitting mats and nets will be available to offer a hands-on experience with the newest clubs. Local golf teaching professionals will be available throughout the show to offer tips and drills to improve every hacker’s game.
To top it all off, University of Michigan football players Jordan Kovacs, Will Campbell and Denard Robinson will be on hand from 1-3 p.m. Feb. 22 to chat with golf fans and sign autographs.
The show officially opens 5-8 p.m. Feb. 21 and continues 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 22. Doors are open for the final day 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 23.
