A public prayer vigil for Trayvon Martin will be held 6-7 p.m. July 20 at the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas, 700 Adams St., in Downtown Toledo.
The vigil will begin with the singing of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Rev. Cedric Brock of Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church will speak on “Unity,” Rev. Robert Birt of Glass City Church of Christ will speak on “Justice,” Rev. Cheri Holdridge of The Village Church will speak on “Standing Our Ground” and a poem titled, “I am Trayvon Martin” will be read, according to a news release.
The vigil is being hosted by Brock, Toledo Area Ministries, Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, youth pastor Chris McBrayer of Glass City Church of Christ and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
The 17-year-old Martin was fatally shot in Sanford, Fla., on Feb. 26, 2012, by neighborhood watch coordinator George Zimmerman, sparking a court case that drew national attention.
