PizzaPapalis to donate Feb. 10 proceeds to fallen firefighter fundWritten by Staff Reports | | email@example.com
PizzaPapalis of Toledo has announced it will open 5-9 p.m. Feb. 10 to host a benefit in honor of the two Toledo firefighters who recently died in the line of duty.
Toledo Fire Department Pvt. Stephen Machcinski, 42, and Pvt. James Dickman, 31, died Jan. 26 from injuries sustained while fighting an apartment fire in North Toledo. Machcinski’s family has asked that all donations be made to the Dickman family.
All proceeds from the event, including dine-in and carry-out orders, will be donated to The Dickman Family Memorial Fund. Donations will also be accepted at the restaurant during the event and all week, said co-owner Tom Stegeman. Donations to the fund can also be made through any PNC Bank.
Restaurant staff will be volunteering their time to staff the event and Toledo firefighters will serve as celebrity bartenders.
PizzaPapalis is usually closed on Mondays and the company wanted to do something to help, Stegeman said.
A former PizzaPapalis general manager recently left the company to become a Toledo firefighter and was in Dickman’s fire academy class, Stegeman added.
“We’re hoping to get as many people there as possible and raise as much money as possible,” he said. “Whatever money comes in, we’re donating.”
PizzaPapalis is located at 519 Monroe St. in Downtown Toledo, next to Fifth Third Field.
