UT football opener to be nationally televisedWritten by Zach Davis | | firstname.lastname@example.org
Despite the Rockets opening their season on the road for the first time since 2009, UT fans will still be able to see their team play.
Toledo’s 2012 opener in Tucson against Arizona at 10:30 p.m. Sept. 1 will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
The Rockets opened their season in both 2008 and 2010 against the Wildcats, both with negative results. Toledo fell 41-16 in Tucson in 2008 before a 41-2 blowout at home in 2010.
The game against Arizona is far from the only action UT will see on national TV. Toledo will host Ball State on Nov. 6 and Akron on Nov. 20, both of which can be seen on ESPN2. The Rockets’ rivalry with Northern Illinois will also be seen on either ESPN2 or ESPNU on Nov. 14, with the game taking place in DeKalb this season.
UT is coming off of a 9-4 season that saw the team pick up a victory in the Military Bowl over Air Force, its first bowl victory since 2005. Although they return three All-MAC players in wide receiver Bernard Reedy and quarterbacks Austin Dantin and Terrance Owens, the Rockets will have to deal with losing their two major offensive players in wide receiver Eric Page and running back Adonis Thomas, who combined for 2,613 total yards of offense and 23 touchdowns last season.
