A pedestrian was struck and killed in Sylvania Township on the morning of Jan. 25. The driver of the vehicle left the scene, but was later found by police, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, which occurred at 5:04 a.m. on Central Avenue near King Road in Sylvania Township.
Tommy D. Rogers, 43, of Sylvania, was walking eastbound on the north side of US 20 when he was struck by a vehicle. Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing reflective clothing, according to the release.
A 2003 Kia Optima, driven by Thomas J. Garcia, 27, of Holland, was traveling westbound on US 20 when it struck Rogers. A passenger in the vehicle, Amanda K. King, 25, of Holland, was injured in the crash.
According to the release, Garcia left the scene and was later found by Maumee Police Department at ProMedica St. Luke’s Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation, including whether driver impairment was a factor.
Sylvania Township Police Department, Sylvania Township Fire Department, Lucas County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio Department of Transportation responded and assisted on scene.
