The Retirement Guys will recognize their 15th year anniversary with “Protecting What Matters,” a dinner with guest speakers at their annual Economic Summit, in which they give customers a financial update for the future.
The event happens Jan. 31 at 6:30 p.m. at The Pinnacle, 1772 Indian Wood Circle, Maumee and celebrates the 15-year relationship of The Retirement Guys, Mark Clair and Nolan Baker, with a dinner of chicken or pasta and guest speakers, Navy Seal Chad Williams and local hero Joseph Bowser, who lost his leg in Iraq.
Baker and Clair teamed up in 2001 to educate people on how to gain financial independence in retirement, said a press release. The Retirement Guys have been speaking on 1370 am radio every Saturday at 1 p.m for more than nine years to answer questions and give advice on retirement.
“I have a lot of respect for military people,” said Baker, who is a veteran. “Every year we give a State of the Union address to give (customers) an outlook for the future. This year is very special since it is our 15-year anniversary, so not only will we feature our financial update… we will feature two special guests.”
Local hometown war hero, Joseph Bowser, who lost his leg in Iraq and went on to become a Silver Medalist in the U.S. Amputee Hockey League, will speak. Bowser is staff assistant to the Secretary of the U.S. Army. He is a 14-year veteran born in Toledo.
Bowser was wounded by a 122mm rocket that exploded meters away during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004. He underwent extensive surgery and decided to become an example to other wounded soldiers.
He now advises the secretary on wounded warrior issues and travels across the country visiting with wounded veterans.
Bower will share his experiences on Iraq and his rehabilitation after loosing a limb.
Guest speaker Chad Williams will share his experiences of loosing his best friend in Iraq, how he became a Navy Seal and his journey to a life with a higher purpose.
The Retirement Guys run a Community Give Back Campaign that supports the troops, said The Retirement Guys media director Dana Nehren.
“Since we run an active Community Give Back Campaign focused on supporting our men and women who serve in our military, we thought it would be nice to bring in two inspirational speakers (Bowser and Williams),” Nehren said in an email.
Baker will also speak on financial matters, including advice on re-balancing portfolios and income planning, when is the best time to draw social security benefits and employer sponsored health plans.
Dinner will be a choice of chicken breast served with champagne sauce or spinach ravioli served with tomato cream sauce. The line-up of speakers will be Bowser at 6:30 p.m., CEO of Camelot Portfolios Darren Munn at 7 p.m., Baker at 7:45 p.m. and Williams at 8:15 p.m. For reservations, call 419-842-0550.
