Kerin placed on Rotary Lombardi Award watch list
Written by Zach Davis | | zdavis@toledofreepress.comZac Kerin’s preseason recognition nationally continues to grow.
A week removed from being named to the Rimington watch list, given annually to the nation’s best center, Kerin has been placed on an even more distinguished preseason list. The UT junior center has been named to the watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award, given each season to the best lineman or linebacker in the country.
To be eligible for the award, a player must be an offensive or defensive end-to-end lineman who sets up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball or a linebacker who sets up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage.
That criteria encompasses more than a few eligible positions; Kerin is one of 145 players in the nation to receive the preseason recognition.
In the Mid-American Conference, eight total players were named to the list, with Kerin being the only center. The others in the MAC mentioned are Bowling Green’s defensive lineman Chris Jones and linebacker Dwayne Woods, Buffalo linebacker Khalil Mack, Kent State’s defensive end Roosevelt Nix and tackle Brian Winters, Northern Illinois defensive end Sean Progar and Ohio guard Eric Herman.
