Years before Tom Waniewski represented District 5 on the Toledo City Council, he was trailing presidential campaigns with a camera in hand.

He and long-time friend Jim Nowak, a videographer, worked for various broadcast news agencies for decades. Part of their career is documented by copious photos of presidents or presidential hopefuls who stopped in Toledo.

The pair compiled their work to display at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library to celebrate Presidents Day. You can check out the 20 photos on the first floor of the library’s central court until the end of March.

The exhibit includes up-close shots of Jimmy Carter, George H. Bush, George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. The photos are accompanied by commentary recalling the nuances of capturing presidential campaigns in action.

Two internationally recognized wedding photographers will lead a hands-on workshop at Owens Community College’s Toledo area campus on June 8.

Michael and Pam Ayers will host “Fast and Spectacular Bridal Portraits with Available Light” for area residents and photographers of all skill levels interested in learning about the technical aspects of producing exceptional wedding photography with available lighting.

The session, presented by the Professional Photographers of Northwest Ohio and the Owens Photo Club student organization, is set for 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Owens’ Center for Fine and Performing Arts Studio Theatre and Rotunda, 30335 Oregon Road, Perrysburg.

Cost of the workshop is $20. Owens students and Professional Photographers of Northwest members are free. Attendees should bring their own cameras and appropriate lenses.

Participants will photograph three model brides courtesy of Atlas Bridal Shop in Toledo in three different lighting situations.

“We are very fortunate to have Michael and Pam Ayers sharing their time and masterful talents specific to wedding photography,” said Fred Eldridge, president of Professional Photographers of Northwest Ohio and owner of Eldridge Images, in a news release. “Their insight during the workshop will certainly help photographers take their wedding photography skills to a higher level.”
