Peelander-Z to land at Frankies Sept. 12Written by Matt Liasse | | firstname.lastname@example.org
Frankies Inner City will play host to a metal foursome from planet Peelander on Sept. 12 — or so a local group claims.
Days after the Sept. 10 release of its new album “Metalander-Z,” Peelander-Z will take the stage in colorful get-ups, not unlike the outfits of the “Power Rangers,” according to band leader Peelander-Yellow.
Peelander-Yellow said he is excited to visit Toledo. He’s been before, but never during the daytime.
“We [were] only there for a show, we’d play and after that we’d move somewhere,” he said. “I want to go during the daytime and I want to see what’s going on in Toledo.”
Peelander-Yellow said the band has a song about tacos, so he looks forward to eating at Tony Packo’s when in the area.
Other band members include Peelander-Purple, Peelander-Pink and Peelander-Green. Peelander-Yellow said some dates of their tour will include Peelander-Red and Peelander-Black.
Peelander-Yellow said Peelander-Z is not a band but a “rock ‘n’ roll preschool.” They sometimes have human bowling or jump rope with the crowd during shows.
The band reinvented its sound for its new album, leaning more towards metal than the punk sound of its previous seven records.
“We want to change our style always,” Peelander-Yellow said.
Before the recording process began, the band listened to early ‘80s artists. Peelander-Yellow said bands like Poison, AC/DC and Iron Maiden influenced him.
The album was released by Chicken Ranch Records.
“I always marvel at Peelander’s ability to distill a genre of music down to its essence,” Chicken Ranch Records’ Mike Dickinson said in a news release. “They have done it again with this album.”
Songs on the album include “Heavy Snake,” “I Got Fired” and “My Shake.” The album’s first single “Ride on the Shooting Star” is a favorite of Peelander-Yellow’s.
“I’m looking for a shooting star always,” Peelander-Yellow said.
The band has appeared at major music festivals including Bonnaroo and the Vans Warped Tour. The band is entering a tour of 13 shows this fall.
