Altvater: Toledo Has Become a Winter Golf MeccaWritten by Fred Altvater | | BackNine@toledofreepress.com
Has the cold weather and snow put a crimp in your golf game? Rather than sugar plums do you have visions of Pebble Beach, Pinehurst or Bandon Dunes dancing in your head?
Well golfers, you are in luck. Toledo has become a winter golf mecca for virtual golf simulators.
Tamaron Golf Club has offered hardcore golfers the opportunity to keep their swings grooved during the cold winter months for several years. Blue Skies Fore Ever in Point Place put in About Golf simulators two years ago and the response has been terrific.
This year the Golf PIT, Fore Golfers, Nick & Jimmy’s and Bedford Golf Club have joined the act and are now offering the virtual golf experience for area golf fanatics.
David Graf of the Golf PIT in Maumee explained,
“The Golf PIT tries to provide a complete range of options for golf equipment, repair, fitness and learning. The addition of the golf simulator offers our clientele one more option to extend their golf season and golf experience.”
Even if you can’t afford to travel to the best golf courses in the world, virtual golf simulators allow local golfers to play hallowed courses such as: Pinehurst, Pebble Beach and St. Andrews.
Jeff Manore, owner and teaching professional at the Nick & Jimmy’s on Monroe Street near the Franklin Park Mall explains,
“We just want our golfers to have fun. With a full bar and restaurant service adjoining our golf simulators, we can offer a complete entertainment package for our clientele.”
In addition to having fun, these simulators offer a chance to study individual spin rate, launch angle, carry, ball speed, and distance. They might even help improve your game when you hit the links in April.
Justin Rist, owner of Fore Golfers on Airport Highway is the newest virtual golf facility in the area. He has four About Golf simulators and has plans to expand his facility in the future.
For golfers with the need for some serious competition, most of these facilities have established league play. January and February leagues are forming now.
You don’t even have to wait for the beer cart girl to find you on the course. A full range of adult beverage options are available at all of these locations except for The Golf PIT. Nick & Jimmy’s, Tamaron and Bedford also have restaurant services to fill that empty void in your stomach as well.
I’ve heard that most golfers add 10 yards to their drives for every cheese burger consumed.
If you don’t want to leave the comfort of your home, About Golf and Ace Indoor Golf, both located right here in Toledo, can install one of their simulators right in your den or family room.
These virtual golf facilities offer area golfers a chance to come in out of the cold and play the best courses in the world without ever leaving Toledo. Get your foursome together and schedule a tee time.
They also offer gift certificates if you are looking for a last minute gift for your favorite golfer fanatic.
