Wauseon and Fremont Ross high schools are the winners in an Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) contest that asked area students to paint snow plows.
Sixteen area high schools from Fulton, Henry, Lucas, Sandusky, Seneca, Williams and Wood counties participated.
Fremont Ross won in the category of “Best Community Spirit” for its design featuring its Little Giant mascot as The Incredible Hulk and the phrase, “Winter is SNOW match for the Little Giants.” Wauseon won in the category of “Best Ice & Snow Safety Theme” for its design featuring characters from “The Simpsons.” and the phrase “Ice & Snow: Take it Slow.”
The winning schools each received $250 from the Northwest Ohio branch of the American Public Works Association (APWA) and 50 pizzas from Marco’s Pizza.
This statewide “Paint a Plow” program was developed by ODOT to help the department become more involved in local communities, increase awareness of ice and snow operations and promote safety, according to a news release from the department.
Other participating high schools included Scott, Rossford, Northwood, Eastwood, Patrick Henry, Fostoria, Holgate, Edgerton, Old Fort, Liberty Center, Lake, Clay, Montpelier and Penta Career Center.
