The Toledo Zoo has released a statement concerning the June 9 death of Nicholas Allore which took place after he collapsed during a field trip to the Zoo.

The release said “The Zoo family is profoundly saddened by the death of Nicholas and our heart goes out to his family. This is an unusual circumstance and we want to give it the proper attention and respect. The Zoo family is working together to come up with a fitting tribute to Nicholas. We will share more information with the community at the appropriate time.”

Nicholas collapsed while on a June 9 field trip to the Toledo Zoo with his Smith Road Elementary School kindergarten class.

The 6-year old boy was taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Lucas County Coroner’s office reported the death was due to congestive heart failure.
