While you watch all of the 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament during March Madness, follow along with a downloadable bracket (link fixed), courtesy of Toledo Free Press Star and presented by Vin Devers Autohaus of Sylvania.
The bracket is updated with all of the winners throughout the tournament, including the championship matchup from April 7 in Arlington, Texas, pitting No. 7 University of Connecticut Huskies against No. 8 University of Kentucky Wildcats. UConn won the championship game, 60-54, which featured the two lowest seeds in NCAA history. It’s the teams fourth national title.
No. 11 seed University of Dayton Flyers was the last Ohio team in the tournament, going to the Elite 8 for the first time since 1984. The school won the spot after beating No. 10 Stanford University Cardinals in Memphis on March 27 and — in the previous round — No. 3 Syracuse University Orange on March 22. The Flyers lost to No. 1 University of Florida Gators on March 29.
Also making it to the Elite 8, No. 2 seed Michigan University Wolverines and No. 4 seed Michigan State University Spartans. Both teams lost their respective games.
The road to the championship was not been a predictable one. No perfect brackets remained as of March 22 for both Warren Buffett’s $1 billion Quicken Loans Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge and ESPN’s Tournament Challenge. It was a rough Friday for some teams after Mercer stunned 3-seed Duke and 10-seed Stanford toppled New Mexico.
In the first round of play, No. 12 seed Xavier University Musketeers lost to No. 12 seed North Carolina State University Wolfpack on March 18, 74-59. The Wolfpack will go on to play No. 5 seed Saint Louis University Billikens on Thursday, March 20. On March 20 in the second round, two Ohio teams battled it out to go to the third round. No. 6 seed The Ohio State University Buckeyes lost a close battle to No. 11 seed University of Dayton Flyers 60-59.
No. 5 seed University of Cincinnati Bearcats lost to No. 12 seed Harvard University Crimson, 61-57. No. 2 seed Michigan University Wolverines won over No. 15 seed Wofford College Terriers, 57-40, to advance to the next round. No. 4 seed Michigan State University Spartans also won against No. 13 seed University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens, 93-78.
Last year, the championship matchup on April 8 in Atlanta pitted No. 4 Michigan University Wolverines against No. 1 Louisville Cardinals. Louisville won the championship game, 82-76. It was the teams first national title since 1986. No. 2 The Ohio State University Buckeyes made it to the final four for the first time since 2007. The team lost to the No. 9 Wichita State Shockers on March 30, 70-66. Three Ohio teams made it into the 2013 tournament: The Buckeyes, No. 10 University of Cincinnati Bearcats and No. 12 University of Akron Zips. All but the Buckeyes were out in the first round.
