The Maumee School 5.9-mill continuing levy appears to have failed according to the unofficial vote tally by the Lucas County Board of Elections for the May 3 Special Election.

As of 9:20 p.m. 100 percent of the 16 precincts in Maumee were counted, with a voter turnout percentage of 21.2.

There were 2844 total votes with 1479 (52 percent) voting against the levy and 1365 (48 percent) for the levy.

For the special election to determine who will finish out the term of former Toledo City Councilman Michael Ashford for District 4, Paula Hicks-Hudson is the unofficial winner. Hicks-Hudson was appointed to the seat pending the special election after Ashford was voted in as the Representative for Ohio House District 48. Hicks-Hudson will have to again run for election in the regularly scheduled election for 2011 that includes all District Council slots. An additional primary will be necessary for any District that has more than two candidates, that date would be Sept. 13 with the general election being held on Nov. 8.

At 9:46 p.m. the Unofficial tally for City Council District 4 with 100 percent of precincts counted and a 2 percent voter turnout was a total vote count of 663:

Paula Hicks-Hudson 472 (71.17 percent)

Terry Shankland 99 (14.86 percent)

Alfonso Narvaez 92 (13.96 percent)

The 4.9-mill levy for Sylvania Schools passed with the unofficial tally shared at 10:33 p.m. The voter turnout was 29.3 percent.

6813 votes (59.25 percent) for the levy, 4685 votes (40.75 percent) against the levy is the unofficial final vote tally.
