Furman tops Rockets againWritten by Zach Davis | | email@example.com
For the second straight outing, Toledo’s starting pitcher was rocked as the Rockets lost to Furman 9-5 on March 3.
Senior starter Alex Radon (0-1, 8.71 ERA) allowed six runs on nine hits in just 1.1 innings of work. Furman tagged junior Mike Hamann for eight runs in four innings the previous day.
With the loss, Toledo dropped to 3-5 on the season while the Paladins moved to 6-5.
Senior second baseman Joe Coffman (3 for 5, R, RBI) and classmate Ben Hammer (3 for 4, 2 RBI) led the Rockets with three hits apiece. Senior right fielder Jeff Cola had a hit in each of his two at bats and scored twice.
Senior Tyler Scott relieved Radon and pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits. Freshman Andrew Marra finished the game, allowing three runs in the final three frames.
The Rockets will look to avoid a sweep in the series finale at 1 p.m. March 4. Junior starter Jared Locke (0-2, 2.84 ERA) is scheduled to get the call, looking for his first win of the year.
