Author Alison Weir to speak tonight on U.S.-Israel relationsWritten by Staff Reports | | firstname.lastname@example.org
Journalist and activist Alison Weir, author of “Against Our Better Judgment: The Hidden History of How the U.S. was Used to Create Israel,” will speak at First Unity Church, 3535 Executive Parkway, at tonight at 6 p.m.
The talk is presented by Third Space and co-sponsored by University of Toledo’s Students for Justice in Palestine, Project Peace and the Northwest Ohio Peace Coalition.
Her book details how powerful politicians, businessmen, and lobby groups, some using covert means, succeeded in pushing the U.S. to support the creation of the state of Israel over the advice of top experts in the State Department, Pentagon, intelligence agencies and elsewhere, according to a news release.
Weir writes that the movement for Israel (also known as the Israel lobby) has targeted virtually every significant sector of American society; also contends that the Israel lobby has dominated Congress for decades and has increasingly determined which candidates could become serious contenders for the U.S. presidency.
Weir is executive director of If Americans Knew, a think tank that focuses on getting the facts about Israel and Palestine to the American public. She appeared on C-SPAN earlier this year as a speaker at the “National Summit to Reassess U.S.-Israel Relations.”
