Fore Golfers offers indoor golf experience in HollandWritten by Holly Tuey | | firstname.lastname@example.org
Winter weather may drive residents of Northwest Ohio indoors, but that doesn’t mean they have to sacrifice one of their favorite sports. A new business in Holland offers indoor golfing for golf lovers young and old.
Fore Golfers Indoor Golf Center is not the first of its kind in the Toledo area, but it does offer the latest in golf simulation technology.
“I played on a simulator [about three years ago] and I really liked it,” said Justin Rist, who owns Fore Golfers with his wife Kimberly. “I wanted to bring one to this side of town. There are a lot of golfers in this area.”
So Rist and his wife began shopping around for a location, for simulators, and more. They ended up using simulators from aboutGolf, a Maumee-based company.
The 4,500-square-foot facility currently has four simulators, which allow golfers to use their own familiar clubs (or rent a set from Fore Golfers) to simulate play on their choice of 42 PGA Tour courses.
They opened on Nov. 16 and Rist said business started slow at first, but has been picking up.
“We’ve been selling a lot of gift cards for Christmas,” he said. “After Christmas and New Year’s, that’s when they really take off.”
Rist said he expects to be busiest right before the golf season starts, when the weather turns warm and golfers want to get ready to play outdoors. And he wants to be ready by adding more simulators eventually.
Fore Golfers has two part-time employees in addition to the Rists, and there are two golf instructors available for anyone who wants to improve their swing.
“They’ve got a really nice set up,” said Jim Siwajek of west Toledo. “It’s always sunny and 72 (degrees) to play golf. You can’t beat that.”
Siwajek said they knew Rist from a golf league and when he opened the place, they came to check it out. He and his friends are retired, and have been playing golf at Fore Golfers about once a week since then.
Fore Golfers offer snacks and a selection of beer, and there are even putt-putt courses for kids to play. Rist said the space will be available to rent out for birthday parties, corporate outings, leagues or even a quick round of golf with friends.
