Celebrity waiter event to aid cardiology fundWritten by Staff Reports | | email@example.com
Fifteen years ago, Al Mundt received a heart transplant from The University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC). Since then he and his wife, Adela, have been on a mission to give back. In 2009, the local couple established the Mundt Cardiology Fund at UTMC with the goal to bring heart transplants back to UTMC.
From the Heart, an annual celebrity waiter event to benefit the fund, is set for 5:30-9 p.m. Aug. 26 at Loma Linda, 10400 Airport Hwy., in Swanton.
Celebrity waiters will include UTMC physicians Dr. Chris Cooper, Dr. Mark Burket, Dr. Samer Khouri, Dr. Thomas Schwann and Dr. Mark Bonnell, UTMC dean of the College of Medicine Dr. Jeffrey Gold, UT athletic director Mike O’Brien, UT head men’s basketball coach Tod Kowalczyk, UT head women’s basketball coach Tricia Cullop, K100 radio host Harvey Steele and Tom Tuschman of OmniSource.
Tips will benefit the fund. There will also be $10 raffle tickets. Tickets are on sale at Loma Linda and Ventura’s, 7742 W. Bancroft St., now through the event. Prizes include a home entertainment system, jewelry, iPad, iPad Mini, use of the UT Department of Medicine basketball suite for 20 people, gift certificates and more.
The Mundts attended two plaque dedications at UTMC on Aug. 20. The plaques were placed in the UTMC Heart and Vascular Center and at the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center as “permanent reminders of the couple’s generosity to the hospital and commitment to helping others,” according to a news release.
