Toledo Bikes! to sponsor used bike driveWritten by Matt Liasse | | firstname.lastname@example.org
Toledo Bikes! wants to motivate the community to give their old bikes new life.
With its first used bike drive, the local organization is taking donations of old bikes to be refurbished.
“[Our] major mission is to recycle bikes and get them into the hands of people who need them for primary transportation, that would include mostly students of UT and people who live around the inner city, but not exclusively,” said member of the board Bob Beach. “Because it’s a small organization and we’re located Downtown, that tends to be audience that we can reach the best.”
Beach said maintenance is done on the bikes and then sold for a discounted price.
Bikes can be dropped off: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 18-21 at Cycle Werks, 6760 Providence St. in Whitehouse; or 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 18-21 at Spoke Life Cycles, 26597 Dixie Hwy. Suite 167 in Perrysburg.
Dropping bikes off at the Toledo Bikes! building, 1114 Washington St., is also available. Anyone unable to drop off bikes can call (419) 386-6090 to arrange a special pickup.
Donors who wish to receive a receipt for tax purposes may attach a note to the donated bike and it will be mailed to them.
Toledo Bikes! is a nonprofit that includes volunteers who recover used bikes for recycling purposes. The group aims to have bikes available to those who need them. It also promotes cycling awareness through community outreach, education and maintenance programs and cycling events, according to a news release.
Toledo Bikes! also sponsors classes on bike maintenance and bicycle safety.
