Way Public Library will open its 2013-14 Reel Talk classic film series with the 1943 classic, “The More the Merrier,” starring Joel McCrea and Jean Arthur. The plot: It’s Washington, D.C., during World War II and housing is in short supply. Arthur’s character patriotically rents half of her apartment to millionaire Charles Coburn, who rents his half to an army sergeant played by McCrea. Coburn plays Cupid in this golden-era film classic. The film earned six Academy Award nominations for 1943, and a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Coburn.
Toledo resident Evan Chase, who coordinates the classic film series at the Maumee Indoor Theatre, will be the special guest speaker. The film will be shown at 10 a.m. Admission and refreshments are free. For more information, call (419) 874-3135.
