Nah Collective sponsor a weekend-long event at Ottawa TavernWritten by Matt Liasse | | email@example.com
Nah Collective is taking over OT.
The two-day takeover will begin Dec. 20 at Ottawa Tavern, 1817 Adams Street, with an all-night dance party featuring Rollergirl, a Cleveland DJ. The event continues the next night with live performances from four bands part of Nah Collective, a collaborative effort among various local artists.
“When I presented the idea to Adam over at the OT, he was all for it,” Nah Collective’s Content Creator and Facilitator Steven Warstler said. “He was like, ‘let’s do the whole weekend.’ I have the ball, now I have to make the play.”
Rollergirl will promote his debut 8-song album, which was released on Halloween. The album includes songs like “#billyocean,” “Waves” and “Roller Disco!”
The group serves as a platform for artists to collaborate. With the goal of building “a collaborative enterprise for all types,” artists gather together to support and benefit music in the area.
The event is in celebration of a Nah Collective Compilation release. The four-track release includes songs from Conestoga Trace, Tree no Leaves, Chinese School and Fluffer. All will perform at the Ottawa Tavern on Dec. 21.
The disc was produced by Wartsler and is an example of the collective co-operations Nah Collective does.
It was recorded locally and the album cover is hand-illustrated by artist Michelle Duni. For the release, Wartsler wanted the bands to do something outside of their comfort zone.
“It’s not what you typically hear from them,” Wartsler said. “It’s not that far off, but it has a little bit of a different angle.”
Wartsler wanted to work with multiple groups from Toledo and hoped to inspire them to work together outside of the project. He said the bands involved have been discussing potential gigs for the future, even branching out of Toledo.
“I think it’s important for bands to play out of the city as well because that brings more music into Toledo, as far as I’m concerned,” Wartsler said.
The CD will be available at the event and online at bandcamp.com.
