Local brothers expand Coin of the Month ClubWritten by Matt Liasse | | firstname.lastname@example.org
Brandon Keegan Jones loved coins when he was a kid. Now, he is passing down the passion.
“We want to inspire the kids to actively research the world around them,” Jones said. “My brother and I … I don’t know why, we just always loved coins.”
Coin of the Month is a monthly subscription to create and build a collection of coins from all over the globe. With the organization, subscribers will receive a coin and fact card in the mail each month. The fact card will provide facts about the country the coin is from. Subscribers will also be provided a magnifying glass to observe the coin at a closer angle.
“It’s a means to just explore the world around you,” Jones said. “We want to offer inspiration through exploration.”
Jones and his brother took over Coin of the Month a year ago from Jim Bolone, who started the company more than eight years ago. When it became too much for the family-man and Toledo area teacher Bolone to keep up with, Jones said, they took over after being interested in it for a number of years.
“We would go over there [and] we were always interested in what he was doing,” Jones said.
The two brothers redid the website two months ago and are relaunching it now. They currently have 11 subscribers and anticipate more once the word starts to get out.
Jones said their age demographic is 6 to 13. They are planning things for older kids for later on.
Jones wants to collaborate with schools.
“Our ultimate goal would be to just offer a means to fundraise for the schools,” Jones said.
