Former University of Toledo men’s basketball coach Bob Nichols will be inducted into the Mid-American Conference Hall of Fame set to take place on May 17 at the MAC Honors Dinner held in the Cleveland Renaissance Hotel.

Nichols, who amassed a 376-212 record in 22 seasons at Toledo, is the MAC’s all-time leader in wins. He led the Rockets to 20 consecutive winning seasons, 1965-85, including his 1966 team, which posted a school-high 23-2 record on the season and finished the year ranked No. 11 in the country.

The Rockets won five MAC titles under Nichols and went to three NCAA Tournaments, including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 1979. He is also the only four-time winner of the Ohio College Coach of the Year award (1967, 1972, 1979, 1980).

Nichols will be one of six members to be inducted into the MAC Hall of Fame this year along with Kent State’s Ben Curtis (golf), Central Michigan’s Herb Deromedi (football coach), Miami’s Wayne Embry (basketball), Ball State’s Karen Fitzpatrick (field hockey coach) and Ohio’s Mike Schmidt (baseball).

The MAC Hall of Fame consists of 52 members before the inclusion of the six inductees. It was established in 1987 and has had just six induction classes, the last of which came in 1994.
