The families of the two Toledo firefighters killed in a January apartment building fire recently received $46,188 from a T-shirt fundraiser organized by The Downtown Pub Club.
The club, which is an association of Downtown pub and restaurant owners, sold T-shirts at their businesses as well as online at ToledoFallenFirefighters.com. The shirt was navy blue and read “In Memory of Toledo Firefighters Stephen A. Machcinski [and] James A. Dickman” in white letters.
The money raised was presented to the two families during a recent Local 92 district meeting. As they have since the start, the Machcinski family directed all funds raised to the The Dickman Family Memorial Fund.
“Firefighters hold various events and frequent our establishments to the point of getting to know a lot of them on a first name basis,” group president Bill Kline, general manager of The Blarney Irish Pub, posted at the website. “As a group we felt the need to take on the responsibility of putting together this fundraising effort to help support our friends of the fire department and most importantly the fallen firefighters and their families.
“We want to thank you for opening your heart and supporting our fundraising efforts. A special mention to the Machcinski family for directing all funds raised towards The Dickman Family Memorial Fund which we will be funding with your donations.”
