Broadway shows will be performed at ‘Just Desserts’Written by Matt Liasse | | firstname.lastname@example.org
For the second year, music from Broadway shows like “WICKED The Musical,” “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Rent” will be performed at “Just Desserts.”
The Lourdes University Drama Society will present the musical showcase in the Ebeid Student Center on the Lourdes University campus. All proceeds will benefit the drama society.
The show was created by Kelly Welever, a Lourdes alumna, who is also directing the show with another alumna, Megan Carter. The show will have a theme of love, which coincides with Valentine’s Day.
“The show is just a collection of music and short scenes from the greatest of Broadway,” Welever said.
The show is a new arrangement from last year, which was a success and prompted the return. Welever said a lot of time went into planning the show and she came up with ideas while directing last year’s show.
There are ten cast members, both university students and community members. Welever said the set will be minimal, but the vocals and costumes will shine.
“This production was completely Kelly’s idea,” Advisor of the Lourdes University Drama Society Keith Ramsdell said in a news release. “She came to me last year wanting to direct a production that would benefit the group, and this is the result. The combination of great music and desserts around a Valentine’s Day theme is brilliant. I’m extremely proud of her.”
Welever is currently working for a degree in theatre from Siena Heights University.
The event will include desserts and beverages served in addition to the performance. Food will be provided by area businesses like Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches, Michael’s Café and Bakery and Panera Bread. Other sponsors include Budget Blinds and Great Lakes Sound and Lighting.
Lourdes University “offers baccalaureate degrees in more than 30 academic majors and graduate degrees in business, education, liberal arts, nursing, organizational leadership and theology,” according to a news release. The university was named “Best in the Midwest” college by Princeton review. For more information, visit www.lourdes.edu or call 419-885-3211.
