Holiday Haircuts 4 Humanity event helps hundredsWritten by Staff Reports | | firstname.lastname@example.org
Several hundred people received free haircuts, flu shots, food, clothes and other items during Holiday Haircuts 4 Humanity, a recent event hosted by Franklin Park Lincoln and Word of Faith Ministries.
Organizers estimated between 240 and 300 people showed up to the Dec. 18 event.
“It was the most beautiful thing you ever want to see,” said Mike Colbert, a salesman at Franklin Park Lincoln. “It was helping people that didn’t have nothing: People out of work, people who just lost jobs, some with no income, a few of them homeless. People with disabilities. A few came from assisted living homes who just wanted to get a haircut for when their families were coming to visit. It was a wonderful day. I enjoyed every minute of it.”
Pastor Terry Sutton of Word of Faith Ministries agreed.
“We were very pleased with it,” Sutton said. “We serviced a lot of people and it was just wonderful to see that people were happy about it.”
Colbert said the idea came after his son, a barber, told him about clients who were in need.
“I took that and ran with it,” Colbert said. “At first it was just going to be hotdogs and haircuts, but it grew into flu shots, clothes, the list goes on. That’s just me. I’m always trying to find that extra way to help someone in need.
“It was amazing to see people who really needed help and we were there to help them,” Colbert said. “That’s the loving part about it all. That’s what thrills your heart, when someone really needs help and you can reach out and help them. That’s what it’s all about.”
