Beard: Iconic Toledo comic book shop makes big moveWritten by Jim Beard | | email@example.com
After twenty-eight years selling funny books from its usual spot at Reynolds and Hill, JC’s Comic Stop, one of Toledo’s oldest comic shops, has not only made a physical move, but also changed its name. JC’s Comics N’ More will throw a Grand Re-Opening shindig on Tuesday, October 29th, complete with ribbon-cutting, grab-bags, and an appearance by members of the Grammy Award-nominated band Lamb of God.
“I felt that this was a good time for a re-branding of the business,” said JC’s owner, Jim Collins. “When I first opened my doors on September 3rd, 1985, comics were the main focus. Over the years it became more than just comics – the collectables market expanded with action figures, statues, t-shirts, bobbleheads and trading cards. With [recent] attention on the world of comics through TV and film, this was the prefect time for the move and name change. It gives me a chance to raise the bar and bring my shop into the 21st Century. The new JC’s boasts the largest inventory of comics and pop collectables in the Tri-State region.”
Along with its new address, 6725-DD W. Central Ave in Toledo, Collins has also given the new shop a sub-title of sorts: “Your Pop Culture Super-Store.”
The big event on October 29th will include D. Randall Blythe and John Campbell of the four-time Grammy Award-nominated heavy metal band Lamb of God. “Mr. Blythe was in the news this past year for manslaughter changes stemming from a concert in 2010 in the Czech Republic,” said Collins. “He was found not guilty earlier this year. Lamb of God is playing a concert in Detroit, Michigan at the Fillmore Theatre that night.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 4 pm and JC’s Comics N’ More will open afterwards. Collins noted that in addition to special sales that day, “grab-bags worth $28.00 or more will be given out with purchase of $28.00 or more.” He has also invited customers via Facebook to come in costume to the event.
