Casino to host job fair on June 17Written by Sarah Ottney | Editor in Chief | email@example.com
On June 17, Hollywood Casino Toledo will host its first major job fair since opening a year ago, looking to fill about 70 open positions.
The fair is set for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the casino’s H Lounge.
“There’s about 70 positions running the gamut from gaming to nongaming, dealers, servers, security, player services, cage cashiers,” said Amber Kersker, human resources business partner with Hollywood Casino Toledo. “There’s a few openings in probably 80 percent of the departments at this point.”
Because it’s inside the casino, attendees must be age 21 years old or older to attend the fair. An ID is required to enter the casino.
Certain jobs, such as dishwashing and serving jobs that don’t require pouring alcohol, can be held by employees younger than age 21, said John McNamara, marketing operations manager for Hollywood Casino Toledo. Those younger than 21 interested in applying can browse available positions and apply online at hollywoodcasiontoledo.com/careers.
Everyone is encouraged to fill out an online application, even those planning to attend the fair, Kersker said.
“We are encouraging folks to apply online prior to coming if interested in something specific, but if they really want to learn more about things, see if it’s even something they want to apply for, and then apply later, that’s perfectly fine,” Kersker said.
The event will be set up like a traditional job fair with a table for each department and representatives available to answer questions about open positions, Kersker said.
Attendees should bring several copies of their resume and be prepared for one-on-one job interviews on the spot, McNamara said. Interviews will also be conducted after the fair.
The main traits Penn National Gaming looks for in hiring is personality and customer service.
“We hire the majority of positions based upon your personality and how you can show us you’ve exhibited great customer service. That’s what we’re all about here is delivering red carpet customer service, so that’s what we look for,” Kersker said. “It’s that willingness to go above and beyond as far as your customer service.”
Many positions require experience, but there are also entry-level positions with the potential for advancement, Kersker said.
“You can really escalate yourself through the process if you can show you have the drive and ambition to do that,” she said.
As of its one-year anniversary on May 29, the casino had promoted 128 employees, including 13 twice and six three times or more, McNamara added.
Each potential employee will have to submit to a pre-employment drug screening, McNamara said. Penn National Gaming, which operates Hollywood Casino Toledo, is a nicotine-free employer, which includes cigarettes, nicotine patches and e-cigarettes, he said. All potential employees will also need to undergo a background check and, in some cases, a credit check.
The casino is located at 1968 Miami St. For more information, visit hollywoodcasinotoledo.com/careers.
