Doesn't look like this is "taking off" like they planned. Who is it that looks into using public money to bet on a loser? This is not OK.

If these guys accepted any salary from taxpayer funds they should be held responsible, along with the people giving out public money to start companies that any experienced person can tell won't work out.

Not sure how it benefits a restaurant when the profit margins are so low to begin with. If I have to give away $7 and then pay $2 as a commission for example, I lost money on that meal. As an owner, I would not use this system or any other gifting or daily deal special.

Love it. You can eat for free every day for lunch using it. Not sure how long the businesses will like it since I don't go back but it's good on my wallet.

Yeah, not much proprietary there. Already a comment on here from another company trying to do the same thing.

With merchants having to take the cost of discounts and a fee on top of it, I don't see how the margins could work without a massive network of users. And what Dan said above certainly applies there.

It's a shame that Amazon, Target or Facebook will just crush them if their idea turns out to be less stupid that it sounds. Unless there is something specific to their coding that makes this idea possible, they simply won't have the leverage to license it to someone else because someone else will just write their own back end. Without a national infrastructure, they will simply never have the tens of millions of dollars needed to create the national brand awareness needed for such a product to work. Hopefully, they have a back up plan that is actually profitable and scalable.

Nice article and best of luck to the Givt team. Coverage of the social gifting space should include www.eGifter.com out of New York - we're different from Givt in that our offers are national and therefore are a good solution when you need to send a gift to a friend outside of your local area.
