Councilmen host online budget meeting Dec. 12Written by Brigitta Burks | News Editor | BBurks@toledofreepress.com
Citizens who are interested in learning about the city’s budget can find out more at 6-8 p.m. Dec. 12 — from the comfort of their own homes.
For the second year, Councilman Tom Waniewski and Councilman George Sarantou, along with members of the city administration, will be available to answer questions on the budget via chat after an online presentation.
“We walk through it just like we would in person, but people are sitting in the comfort of their own home,” Waniewski said.
Last year, more than 200 people participated in the online meeting. Waniewski said in three years of hosting in-person district budgets, “I never had 200 people combined.”
“It’s very convenient for people,” he said. “You can really bop in at any time.”
Sarantou said, “The intent here is to reach out to as many people as possible and there are many citizens out there who depend on the computer as means of communication.”
Council has until March to approve the budget, which Mayor Mike Bell released in November.
“I wish we could pass something by the end of the year, but that might be a little aggressive,” Waniewski said.
