Libbey Inc. is expanding its product offerings for the U.S. foodservice industry by becoming the exclusive distributor of Spiegelau and Nachtmann, two German makers of glassware and serveware, beginning Feb. 1.
With the exclusive agreement, Libbey will offer new premium brand glassware choices to its U.S. foodservice customers.
Libbey’s foodservice and retail business are the two largest and nearly equal channels of distribution for its glassware products, according to a company spokesperson. Libbey is the leading supplier of glassware, dinnerware and flatware products for the foodservice industry, according to the company.
“This agreement directly supports our strategic goal to further grow our business in the foodservice industry. These new choices for stemware and serveware certainly extend our high-quality premium offerings. We can now provide our customers with the broadest tabletop choices available in the U.S.” stated Stephanie Streeter, CEO of Libbey, in a press release announcing the agreement Dec. 6.
“Three great brands are joining together to fully serve the U.S. foodservice industry,” stated Richard Voit, managing director of Spiegelau and Nachtmann, in the release.
“We were attracted to Libbey because they possess many of the same attributes as Spiegelau and Nachtmann including a strong heritage and a reputation for high quality products. That, combined with a high-performing sales team and effective distribution network, makes this agreement a mutually beneficial arrangement,” Voit stated.
Spiegelau, founded in Germany in 1521, is known for its fine stemware and other premium drinkware assortments. Nachtmann offers a variety of upscale stewmare, decorative products and drinkware for finer dining establishments since 1843. Spiegelau and Nachtmann were acquired by Riedel Glassworks in 2004.
Libbey, founded in 1818 and moved to Toledo in 1888, is the largest manufacturer of glass tableware in the western hemisphere and one of the largest in the world, according to the company. It operates manufacturing plants in Toledo, Shreveport, La., Mexico, China, Portugal and the Netherlands.
Libbey supplies glassware, tableware, flatware and serveware products to foodservice, retail, industrial and other commercial customers in more than 100 countries. The company’s brands include Libbey glassware, Syracuse China, and World Tableware.
Libbey employs about 1,300 people at its corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility in Toledo.
