The UT women’s basketball team added a member to its staff this week as it named Vicki Hall the new assistant women’s basketball coach.

Hall served last season as the assistant coach at New Mexico, which finished 11-20 with a 3-11 record in Mountain West play. The Lobos became the first No. 7 seed to advance to the Mountain West Tournament Championship but lost by 14 to San Diego State.

“Vicki’s a wonderful role model and mentor for our players, a gifted coach and a winner,” UT head coach Tricia Cullop said. “Vicki will be very involved in our recruiting efforts in the United States and abroad, and I know she’ll do a terrific job developing our post players. We are fortunate to add such a basketball talent and tremendous person to our staff.”

Cullop met Hall when the two of them played on the same national championship winning AAU team in high school. She was named “Indiana Miss Basketball” and was named the Naismith and Gatorade Player of the Year before choosing to attend Texas. After that, she spent several years as a member of the United States National Team, winning a world championship in 1990. She played a 16-year career both overseas and in the WNBA.

“I’ve always been impressed with her work ethic,” Cullop said. “Vicki’s vast experience representing the United States as well as an illustrious professional career in the United States and overseas will give her instant credibility with our players.”

Hall will take the spot on the bench of associate head coach Nitra Perry, who has been a part of the UT staff the last four seasons. Perry took the head coaching position at Kennesaw State in the offseason.
