After a stellar freshman campaign, Toledo point guard Juice Brown has been named to the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Freshman All-American Team.
Brown led all Mid-American Conference freshmen this season with 11.9 points, 4.9 assists and a 1.6 assist/turnover ratio, starting all 36 games at point guard for the Rockets. He also finished sixth in the nation from first-year players in assists. His success led to being named this year’s MAC Freshman of the Year.
Against Central Michigan on Feb. 22, Brown scored a season-high 29 points and tied a school record with a 90.9 percent field goal percentage, hitting 10-of-11 shots. He also recorded more than seven assists 14 times this season including a season-best 11 against McNeese State in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
Brown was one of the biggest factors behind the success of Toledo this season, which had the second biggest win turnaround in the nation. The Rockets finished 19-17 on the year after back-to-back school-worst 4-28 seasons and advanced to the second round of the CIT before losing at home by 18 points to Robert Morris.
