Toledo football schedule announcedWritten by Zach Davis | | firstname.lastname@example.org
With the release of the 2012 Toledo football schedule, the Rockets will play archrival Bowling Green in their home opener and third game overall on Sept. 15. The game had been the final game of the season since 2000 until it was moved up to before Thanksgiving last year to help bring a better atmosphere and student attendance.
The Rockets also will host the Big East’s Cincinnati in UT’s marquee nonconference home matchup of the season on Oct. 20. The Bearcats were 10-3 last season including a Liberty Bowl victory over Vanderbilt.
“Our schedule is very challenging but also very exciting for our players and fans,” said first-year head coach Matt Campbell. “We’re looking forward to hosting both Cincinnati and that team down south in the same season. The Glass Bowl should be rocking for our home opener and all season long. I know our players and coaching staff can’t wait for the season to begin, and I’m sure our fans feel the same way.”
Toledo will be a long way from home as the season starts at Arizona on Sept. 1 and Wyoming on Sept. 8. The Rockets will be looking to avenge two losses from 2010 after the Wildcats (41-2) and Cowboys (20-15) both won games over UT in the Glass Bowl. The Arizona game will also be the debut of former Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez before facing Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen, who is a former UT assistant coach.
