UPDATE: Rockets headed to postseason, invited to CIT
Written by Zach Davis | | zdavis@toledofreepress.comThe Toledo men’s basketball team’s season isn’t quite over yet.
After recording the nation’s second-largest win differential from last year, the Rockets will compete in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament on March 13 against McNeese State (17-15). UT finished 18-16 this season after posting a 4-28 record the last two years.
“We’re extremely excited to be selected to participate in postseason play and it’s a great reward for the hard work by everyone in our program this season,” said Toledo head coach Tod Kowalczyk. “I also think this is something that can help us build momentum for next season as we continue to grow our program.”
The 24-team tournament will consist of every game being played on campus sites. Tickets are $10 or $14 and will go on sale at 10 a.m. on March 12 in the UT Ticket Office or by calling (419) 530-4653 (GOLD). Students have free admission with their student IDs.
Toledo’s invite stems from its quality of play late in the season, winning seven of its final nine games before it was eliminated from the Mid-American Conference Tournament by eventual champion Ohio. Sophomore guard Rian Pearson finished third in the league’s Player of the Year voting, freshman point guard Juice Brown was named MAC Freshman of the Year and junior guard Curtis Dennis was an All-MAC honorable mention in just half a season of play coming off the UT bench.
Just like UT and Pearson, the Cowboys are paced by a 6-foot-4 guard of their own in Patrick Richardson. The senior is averaging 18.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per contest.
