CLEVELAND — Toledo had an early scare from Northern Illinois, but rallied in the second half to win 72-62 and advance to the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The third-seeded Rockets (21-8) trailed by as many as 10 in the first half but rallied to just two points down at the half. Toledo held the No. 7 Huskies (14-17) scoreless for almost 12 minutes in the second half to advance to the MAC Tournament semifinals for the fifth straight season.
UT leading scorer Andola Dortch led the way once again for the Rockets. The sophomore point guard scored 24 points on 7-of-17 shooting and added eight assists and four rebounds.
Senior guards Haylie Linn (4 of 5) and Courtney Ingersoll (2 of 8) had 12 and eight points, respectively. Senior center Yolanda Richardson (3 of 3) had six points and seven rebounds while her backup, Kyle Baumgartner, tallied nine points and seven rebounds off the bench in 15 minutes of action.
With the victory, the Rockets will now take on No. 2 seed Eastern Michigan, which has been a thorn in their side in recent history. The Eagles beat Toledo in both of their games this season, including holding UT to their lowest scoring output in school history on Feb. 21 at 33 points. EMU also eliminated the Rockets from the MAC Tournament semifinals last season.
