For the second consecutive game, Toledo (3-8) had just three hits. Senior first baseman Mark Lapikas highlighted the day with a grand slam in the third inning, putting UT ahead 4-2. Junior designated hitter Andy Mix and freshman shortstop Dan Zuchowski both recorded the final two hits.

In his first start of his career, freshman Andrew Marra allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits in 2.1 innings. He gave way to freshman Alec Schmenk (0-1) who was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs (two earned) in just 0.2 inning of work.

The Chanticleers (5-4) scored six in the third, responding to Lapikas’ grand slam to take an 8-4 lead and added two in the seventh.

Toledo will have one more chance against Coastal Carolina when the two teams match up at 4 p.m. March 9.
