Dortch earns MAC Defensive Player of the Year; three named All-MAC

Toledo sophomore point guard Andola Dortch became the first Rocket to win the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year award in school history on March 6.

Dortch recorded three steals on 10 different occasions this season, helping grab the league’s top defensive honors. She was also named to the All-MAC Second-Team, leading the team in scoring (13.1), assists (4.3) and steals (1.9).

Also joining Dortch on the league’s Second Team is center Yolanda Richardson. The junior is averaging 11.8 points and 8.1 rebounds, as well as a league-high 2.9 blocks per game.

In her senior season, Courtney Ingersoll was named Third-Team All-MAC, recording 11.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game. She leads the nation in shooting from behind the arc with 43.8 percent.

The No. 3 seed Rockets begin MAC Tournament play at 2:30 p.m. March 8 after sitting out with its two byes.
