Rockets lose rubber match in series at Charlotte
Written by Zach Davis | | zdavis@toledofreepress.comDespite a solid pitching performance from Jared Locke, the Rockets lost the series finale against Charlotte 3-2 on Feb. 26. With the loss, Toledo lost two of three games on the weekend to the 49ers.
Locke (0-2, 2.95 ERA) lost his second game in two starts despite allowing just three unearned runs on six hits in 7.2 innings. The sophomore starter also struck out a career-high five batters.
Offense was hard to come by for the Rockets (3-3) with the team recording just three hits on the day. Third baseman Joe Corfman made the only impact on the scoreboard as the senior hit a two-run shot in the eighth inning to give Toledo a 2-1 lead.
The UT advantage would not last long, however, as the 49ers (5-2) capitalized off of a fielding error by Corfman. Two runners scored, and the 49ers held on for the 3-2 victory.
The Rockets are back on the diamond March 2-4 when they take on Furman (3-5) in Greenville, S.C., in game seven of their 17-game road stretch to open the year.
