UT to hold ‘Rockets for the Cure’ event
Written by Zach Davis | | zdavis@toledofreepress.comThe UT women’s basketball team will hold the fourth-annual “Rockets for the Cure” day on Feb. 18 during their game against Western Michigan. The event will be held in an effort to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Northwest Ohio.
Last season, the Rockets raised $14,366 for the foundation, which helps to combat breast cancer.
All fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink in support of the cause, just as the players will with special pink jerseys. The jerseys will be auctioned off after the game by Channel 11 anchor Chrys Peterson.
A memorabilia raffle will occur during the game and fans will be able to buy “Rockets for the Cure” T-shirts for $10, with all proceeds being donated. Ticket prices are $9 for adults and $4.50 for children. Tickets will be $3 for groups of 15 or more, with a deadline for registration for the group rate occurring at 5 p.m. Feb. 17. The first 500 fans in the arena will also receive commemorative T-shirts.
The Rockets (17-7, 10-2 Mid-American Conference) will face Western Michigan (6-19, 3-9 MAC) at noon Feb. 18 in Savage Arena, looking to avenge a three-point road loss in January.
