Rocket women to face BG in battle of top MAC teamsWritten by Zach Davis | | firstname.lastname@example.org
In a showdown between two of the top teams in the Mid-American Conference, Toledo hosts archrival Bowling Green at noon Feb. 11 at Savage Arena. The game will be televised on SportsTime Ohio and ESPN3.
The Rockets (15-7, 8-2 MAC) are looking for a win to remain tied with Eastern Michigan atop the MAC West. Bowling Green (20-3, 10-0), meanwhile, is still undefeated in league play. UT has won the last two regular season games against the Falcons by a combined four points.
After a bit of a slow start following the loss of star point guard Naama Shafir to an ACL tear, the Rockets have won seven straight games.
UT senior guard Courtney Ingersoll has led the team as of late, scoring 43 points with 11 rebounds in the past two games, earning herself MAC West Division Player of the Week honors. Ingersoll has been particularly effective from behind the arc this season, ranking second in the nation, shooting nearly 46 percent from three.
Sophomore point guard Andola Dortch leads the Rockets in points (13.3), assists (4.6) and steals (2) per game. Junior center Yolanda Richardson provides the offense on the inside, scoring 10.4 points with six rebounds and two blocks per contest.
The Falcons are lead by Chrissy Steffen and Alexis Rogers, who are scoring 14 and 12 points per game, respectively.
BG leads the all-time series 41-27, but the Rockets hold a 16-14 edge at Savage Arena. Toledo is expecting a near sold-out crowd and asking its fans to wear gold.
