Toledo looking to upset Bobcats
Written by Zach Davis | | zdavis@toledofreepress.comAfter losing three of their first four games in a six-game swing against the Mid-American Conference’s East Division, the Rockets will look to grab a major upset against Ohio at 7 p.m. Feb. 8 in Savage Arena.
The Rockets (10-13, 2-7 MAC) are just one of three MAC West teams to beat an East team in 24 games this season with their 63-61 victory over Miami (Ohio) on Jan. 25.
To upset the Bobcats (19-4, 7-2), who have the second-best record in the conference, UT will lean heavily on Rian Pearson. The sophomore guard has been extremely effective as of late, earning MAC West Division Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks. Pearson averaged 25 points and 9.25 rebounds and 1.75 steals over the last two weeks.
Ohio has a talented guard of its own in D.J. Cooper. The junior ranks seventh in the MAC with 13.3 points per contest. He also is second in the league in steals (2.4) and third in assists (5.6).
Toledo will be looking for its first home win since Jan. 18. The Bobcats are winners of six straight but have lost two of their last three on the road.
