Toledo faces its toughest conference road test of the year on Feb. 1 when the Rockets travel to Mid-American Conference East Division leading Akron at 7 p.m. The contest will be televised live on SportsTime Ohio and can also be seen on ESPN3.
The Rockets (10-11, 2-5 MAC) topped Miami (OH) last week 63-61, ending its 30-game conference road losing streak dating back to March 2008. Toledo will be facing a much tougher opponent on the road, however, when they take on the league-leading Zips (14-7, 6-1), who are 2-0 at home in league play.
Toledo will be facing the league’s second-ranked scoring offense at 72.8 points per game. Akron’s Zeke Marshall (10.4), Nikola Cvetinovic (10.1) and Nick Harney (10.1) each are scoring in double-figures while Quincy Diggs averages 9.5 points off the bench.
The Rockets are scoring 71 points per game and have four players averaging double-figures. Sophomore guard Rian Pearson, coming off a week earning MAC West Player of the Week honors, leads the team in points (16.4) and rebounds (7.9). Junior Curtis Dennis is averaging 12.6 points per game off the bench while Juice Brown (11.2) and Dominique Buckley (11) are also scoring in double-digits.
