Rockets host Kent StateWritten by Zach Davis | | email@example.com
After winning its opening matchup of a six-game swing against the Mid-American Conference’s East Division, the Rockets look to grab their third win in four games when they host Kent State at 7 p.m. Jan. 28.
Despite losing their first three league games, Toledo (10-10, 2-4 MAC) sits just two games behind Ball State for the lead in the MAC West with 10 games to play.
The Rockets’ two victories this season are against the bottom feeder of both the East and West divisions in Miami (Ohio) and Northern Illinois, respectively. They can make a statement against the Golden Flashes (13-6, 3-3 MAC), an annual contender in the MAC, who are two games back of leader Akron and need a win to keep pace.
The matchup expects to be a shootout featuring the conference’s third and fourth scoring offenses, with Kent State’s 71.8 points per game narrowly edging out UT’s 71.6 ppg. Toledo has amped up its defense as of late, however, allowing fewer
than 48 points per game in its last three contests.
Rockets sophomore guard Rian Pearson leads the team in scoring (16.1) and rebounds (7.9) per game. Kent State forward Justin Greene and guard Randal Holt lead KSU attack with 12.8 ppg.
