Back 9: Hank Haney New Book “The Big Miss” About Tiger WoodsWritten by Fred Altvater | | BackNine@toledofreepress.com
Hank Haney will be releasing a book about the six years that he spent coaching and teaching Tiger Woods.
Haney has been one of the leading golf instructors in the world for a long time. He first came to prominence helping Mark O’Meara build a swing that has held up through 34 professional wins including two majors.
O’Meara was instrumental in getting Tiger Woods and Haney together back in 2004 when Tiger decided to leave Butch Harmon and work with Haney.
The Haney/Woods partnership produced six major championship trophies and Woods won PGA Player of the Year honors four out of the six years that they collaborated.
Haney ended his teaching/coaching relationship with Woods after Tiger withdrew from the 2010 Players Championship.
The book entitled “The Big Miss” has more than one meaning. The Big Miss in golf terms is a wayward drive which Tiger has been having some problems with especially in recent years.
The Big Miss can also refer to the myriad of personal problems that Woods brought upon himself with his dalliance with several torrid affairs. When his indiscretions became public after Thanksgiving weekend in 2009 Woods’ marriage, as well as, his golf game came apart.
The Big Miss would eventually be Woods failure to realize his lifelong goal of breaking Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major championship wins.
Woods has not won a major since the 2008 U. S. Open held at Torrey Pines. He just turned 36 years old and his chances to surpass Nicklaus may be fleeting.
The book is in the final stages of publication and will be available for purchase in the near future.
