Back 9: LPGA Ends 2011 with the CME Group Titleholders at Grand Cypress ResortWritten by Fred Altvater | | BackNine@toledofreepress.com
With the attention given to Tiger’s third place finish in the Australian Open and this week’s Presidents Cup Matches to be held at Royal Melbourne, the LPGA’s season-ending CME Group Titleholders tournament has gotten lost amid all the hype.
The LPGA season, which kicked off in Thailand in February, featured 24 sanctioned tournaments throughout the year and visited China, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, France Scotland, Canada and the continental United States.
The CME Group Titleholders will be held at beautiful Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando and is a culmination of the women’s golf season with a $1.5 million purse to be shared among the top 66 players on the tour with 23 of the top 30 players on the Rolex World Rankings in the field.
Yani Tseng dominated the LPGA in 2011, winning seven LPGA events and garnering 13 top tens in her 21 starts. The 22 year old Tseng also won two majors making her the youngest player ever, man or woman to reach five major tournament wins.
Tseng also leads the LPGA money list with a little over $2.8 million in earnings, more than $1.4 million ahead of Christie Kerr.
Be sure to set your DVR. The CME Group Titleholders will be aired only on the Golf Channel at the following times.
Thursday 1:30-4:00 PM ET
Friday 12:20-3:00 PM ET
Saturday 1:30-4:00 PM ET
Sunday 1:30-4:00 PM ET
Will Paula Creamer, Michelle Wie or Christie Kerr provide some competition for the world’s No. 1 lady golfer, Yani Tseng, and deny her the CME Group Titleholders trophy come Sunday?
