I love the art and music teachers I have had.I want to be a clothes designer.all I do well in school is my art and math and social science . I love the art teachers at the 3 schools I went to old orchard and glendalefeelbach and Beverly .my my said I can go to the art school if Toledo takes art from the kids.I love miss Armstrong miss Hammond and mr presston. ;) Katie ;•)

Let’s encourage jobs in Toledo, careers, let’s support Toledo and it’s educators . What cuts has have we heard from the big wigs on manhattan ?????

I truely support and believe in the teaching of arts in elementary schools. I encourage my children in the arts. Toledo Public Schools and the community should should support these licensed professionals who have expertise in their content. We should encourage career and career choices. Sadly if TPS discontinues these programs I will be one of many parents in my community getting the voucher to entroll my child else where. Old West End Mom

I went to Glendale-Feilbach ,Byrndale then Bowsher. I would not have the career, life and family I have now with out the early stuctured teaching of Art Education.I graduated in 2005, I continued my education at BGSU, in the field of graphic design. Without the excellent introduction to the arts at the elementary level I would not be the person I am today.I met my husband in college because of our mutual passion for the arts. I entered the field of design because of 5 very special teachers….. With out them I would not have the career, family, and life I have today. Thank you Toledo Public Schools,I want all principals,board members ,and comunitee members to think back to your schooling, you education, your present job, how did you get where you are ?

Very sad story. My daughters go to Elmhurst and they are both extra excited to go to school on the days they have art. Ms. Murphy is an extremely talented teacher as I’m sure many of the art teachers in TPS are. Both of my daughters have become more confident and have a sense of pride from the art they have created in Ms. Murphy’s Class. It is really important to me that the district keep the art teachers and I hope they find another area to make cuts. The research clearly shows that students exposed to the arts perform better academically than those that are not exposed to the arts. Research aside though, I have two little girls who will be sad and angry if they are not able to express their creativity next year with Ms. Murphy.

This article is exactly the reason that BeInstrumental, a Toledo-based 501(c)(3) organization was created.

BeInstrumental, started by local entrepreneurs, provides musical education opportunities to children in our region. Our organization, which recently won a Pepsi Refresh Everything grant, has organized a successful after-school music program in a school on the South-End of Toledo. We are looking to expand the program to additional schools in the following semester.

We are constantly looking for volunteers and ideas on how to expand our footprint and how to improve our services. But most importantly, we want to ensure that each child has the opportunity to have a musical education.

I heard that one of the “board members” who supports the arts so greatly with his wife in Toledo, did not attend the students arts exhibits. I guess they were too busy drinking COFFEE.

I heard even one “Board Member” who supports “THE ARTS” so much in Toledo, did not even make it to the SHOW.Too,busy drinking the “COFFEE” I guess.

Just look, how many jobs relate to the arts.Look at everything around you ,and how it is designed,built,marketed………The cutting of art education yet again puts the U.S.A. behind everyone else….The board needs to cut from the top,and teachers need to give with the extra pay for extra duties.Step up, do your jobs to the best of your abilities,keep this program for the students.T.P.S.’s administration needs to give,as teachers do also……SAVE THIS PROGRAM!!!!!!Sadly T.P.S. will loose many students from cutting this program.STEP UP BOTH SIDES GIVE A LITTLE…..DO NOT TOTALLY ELIMINATE.Honestly,I will enroll my two children in a charter, if Toledo cuts ART and P.E..
