Police will up enforcement on St. Patrick’s Day

Written by Emily Gibb | | egibb@toledofreepress.com

The Toledo Police Department and the Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol will conduct a city-wide traffic enforcement blitz on Thursday.

Officers have not decided on specific areas yet, but Lt. John Altman of the Stat Highway Patrol said he and Lt. Jeff Sulewski of the Toledo Police Traffic Section will look at high crash rate and OVI areas, as well as school zones.

Toledo police officers assigned to the enforcement special will receive overtime pay from a federal grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The extra enforcement is part of a national “St. Patrick’s Day” traffic blitz campaign.

The Lucas County OVI Task Force and all agencies that receive money through the grant will have extra officers on patrol, Altman said.

  1. WASTE WASTE WASTE!!! What’s new? Just more government waste…spending your tax dollars on nonsense. How many tens of millions have been wasted for stepped up enforcement?? It’s tantamount to entrapment – more than that, money down the drain. Thought we were supposed to be tightening our belts.

C’mon Kasich, let’s bust these unions. NO MORE OVERTIME for these officers, either. This is unbelievable to me.
