Sylvania Schools has updated their budget reduction plan for 2011 through 2012.
“The willingness of Sylvania teachers, support staff, administrators, and board of education members to make salary concessions led to a revision of the budget reduction plan for 2011-12,” Sylvania Schools Superintendent Brad Rieger said in a media release. “The economic sacrifice of staff members, coupled with a significant number of retirements, enabled positions to be taken off the reduction list. The changes to the budget reduction plan will have a positive impact on the overall student experience.”
The district is seeking a 4.9 mill operating levy on May 3, 2011 and said it is necessary to regain the district’s financial stability and prevent additional and deeper cuts in academic programs, extracurricular activities, and services. The revised budget plan calls for $5,052,500 in cuts with 75.3 positions eliminated, 22.5 of those positions will be eliminated through retirements.
“Working together we can make it through these difficult economic times and continue to ensure that Sylvania students will succeed in college and the workforce and make a significant contribution to society,” Rieger said.
