Leah, You are very creative with the pen, I loved it. Did you know your cousin Jennifer is also blessed with distal lower extremity picker-uppers.

Best theme to ANY mothering article; find what works for you and your child and leave the rest behind. (also, can't we all just agree not to refer to Dr. Freud and infants - it's never good.)
Sometimes the hardest part of the job is the gigantic peanut gallery.

Such a great article. It made a great start to my day. Sadly my son will not suck a binky or his thumb and will not be "pacified".

My favourite part was the Shakespeare reference. Hoping you write a book someday on motherhood; would be a great read.

God Bless!

Nice article. It gave me a good chuckle and makes a valid point about how sometimes you have to tune out all the chatter and do what fits your situation.

Great article -- clever, witty, insightful, and well-written. I've had a bunch of kids, none of whom had nuks or binkies, but they all managed to find their thumbs. One son, I finally concluded, was not left-handed at all; rather he was right-thumbed. They all grew out of it soon or later -- mostly later.

I picked up the paper just to read this article.

This was great Leah. I have contemplated this issue a lot lately and I tend to agree with you. Well written, humorous, researched and witty. I'm a fan.

My teeth have come out remarkably straight for having sucked my thumb until I was 11.

My daughter weaned herself away from the pacifier and into sucking two fingers on her left hand with the palm out.

I am of the thumb sucker variety, yet my sons are one of each. Like you, I can pick up certain things with my toes. My sons, age 24 and 21 are laid back, confident dudes. The thumb sucker is a combat vet!
